Open Die Forgings

Open Die Forgings

Start your project

Few metalworking processes generate finished products with the strength and durability of open die forging. When your components must withstand demanding operating environments, turn to Marberry Machine. We’re the experts at transforming these forgings into precision parts.

Benefits Of Open Die Forging

Open die forging is the practice of shaping a part from a heated billet placed between multiple dies that don’t fully enclose the workpiece. The dies hammer or stamp the billet through a series of fast movements until final dimensions are achieved.

Also called free forging, this practice is very advantageous for parts that must overcome use and abuse. Open-die forging has been consistently shown to offer the following benefits:

  • Better Fatigue Resistance
  • Continuous Grain Flow
  • Finer Grain Size
  • Improved Microstructure
  • Increased Strength
  • Less Material Waste
  • Lower Chance Of Voids
  • Longer Lifespan
